Zip lines

The Cables are two zip line circuits (X-Tremos and Ultras). One crosses the valley of San Buenaventura, the other reaches the tip of the bay with Lake Atitlan and its volcanoes as a backdrop. Many experiences in one. Many experiences in one ride.

Each cable is a different experience: some are up to 60 meters high, others have magnificent views of forests, waterfalls, volcanoes and the lake itself. At the end of each circuit there is an optional low ropes course.

Safety First

Given that this is an extreme activity, the Cables X-Tremos are remarkably safe. Our guides are conscientiously trained and all our equipment (harnesses, carabineers, slings, trolleys, etc.) has US and European certification. The design and construction of the zip trek followed international standards for safety and has been tested with loads that provide wide margins of safety.

We have a trial cable where you can test your brakes.

Low ropes to wrap it up

Both the X-Tremos and the Ultras end in an optional ropes course. See if you can cross a river on thin wooden planks or wobbling from one swing to another!

Optional Ropes Course to wrap it up

  • What do you see on the way to the zip lines?
A lot. You’ll go by our coffee grove, 5 hanging bridges that cross valleys and rivers, the deciduous forest and an ancient bridle trail. This same trail leads to the Ultras, whose own trail has the forest on one side and a magnificent rock wall on the other.
  • Length of the X-Tremos and Ultras
  • How long is the zip line tour?
The X-Tremos tour lasts one and a half hours and the Ultra X-Tremos tour lasts one hour and 45 minutes. With larger groups the time can be increased from 10 to 30 minutes.
  • ¿What can you see from the X-Tremos cables?
You can see the homestead, the visitor centre, the auditorium and the lodges of the Reserve. You can also see the coffee plantation, the bridges and the waterfall and, in the distance, the lake and the volcanoes. On the arrival of 2, you can see the rocks on one side of the valley and its xerophytic vegetation, from very dry places.
  • Comparison of X-Tremos and Ultras zip- lines
  • ¿Qué debo llevar puesto? / What should I wear?
Ropa casual y zapatos cómodos. No usar sandalias. Casual clothing and comfortable shoes. Don't wear sandals or flip-flops.
  • What can you see from the Ultras cables?
The same as from the X-Tremos and in addition, you can clearly see the volcanoes of Atitlán, Tolimán and Cerro de Oro, as well as the towns of Panajachel, San Antonio, San Lucas and Santiago. The rocky outcrop with magueys, cactus and similar is impressive. There, with luck, you can see red tailed hawks, gray herons and families of coatis and foxes. On cable C, you can see the valley of San Buenaventura.
  • Is it safe?
  • What is riding in tandem with a guide?
It’s being safely attached to a guide who will brake for you in the cables. This is especially useful for children or people who prefer to solely sit back and enjoy the ride.
  • Are there any age restrictions?
Yes, you’ve got to be older than 2 and younger than 85 years old. Those are the ages covered by our insurance. If you can climb up, you can glide down. Children can choose to go in tandem with a guide.
